“Brothers Quay” experimental animations screening at local gallery

Saturday, August 1st, at 5pm, Figure One will host a free screening of a selection of short animated films created by the Brothers Quay. The event will feature pieces from  Zeitgeist Films’ “Phantom Museums” collection, followed by a brief discussion, and is hosted by the resident artist Sue Kay Lee.

The Quay Brothers are American identical twins, who moved to Europe and began creating stop animations that use puppets made of disassembled doll parts in dark settings. Terry Gilliam did choose a different film of theirs, Street of Crocodiles, as one of his top-ten animated films of all times. They are also to be the subject of a documentary Christopher Nolan is directing, to be released in time for Halloween.
