MakerGirl Fall 2015 sessions

MakerGirl, a program that encourages 7-10 year old girls to pursue STEM fields through 3D printing sessions, announces its Fall 2015 sessions:

Passion for Fashion
Girls will learn about the importance of standing out and having unique style as well as how 3D printing is affecting the retail industry. Dolls and clothes will be printed for girls who go to the first session. Girls can attend this session twice and make more clothes and accessories for their dolls they created in the initial session!

Sweet STEM
This is a Halloween-themed MakerGirl session. Girls are encouraged to dress up when they come to MakerGirl this week. Girls will learn about how STEM makes the world a “sweeter” place to live in and discuss how to accomplish their goals. Girls will be printing an item that will make the world a “sweeter” place to live. #SweetSTEM

Geared for Greatness
Girls will learn about gears and how they work. They will be able to customize and print their own gear which will be used to solve a collaborative puzzle that will be presented at the beginning of the session. After the puzzle is solved, the girls can take their gears home and they have the option of making them a magnet during the session. Through the gears project the girls will learn about working collaboratively and problem solving.

Creating with Chemistry
This session will introduce girls to the chemistry behind 3D printing. The three states of matter (solid, liquid, and gas) will be discussed and applied to the 3D printing plastic (filament). The girls will then print a chemistry-related object that can be turned into a keychain, magnet, etc. The goal of this session is to connect 3D printing with the science part of STEM.

STEM in Sports
The goal of this session is to show girls that they don’t have to choese between playing sports and being a girl…they can do both! Sports will be connected to 3D printing through a discussion about 3D printed sports equipment and how 3D printing helps paralympic athletes. The girls will then print a sports-related object that can be made into a keychain, magnet, etc.

Camp Kessem
Come join us for a unique MakerGirl session featuring Camp Kesem! The goal of this session is to teach the girls how 3D printing can help others in their very own community. During this session the girls will print an object (keychain, magnet, etc.) for Camp Kesem and a guest from the camp will speak to the girls about how their work impacts the children involved in their program.

Big Brothers Big Sister create MakerGirl
Come join us for a unique MakerGirl session featuring Big Brothers Big Sisters! The goal of this session is to teach the girls how 3D printing can help others in their very own community. During this session the girls will print an object (keychain, magnet, etc.) for Big Brothers Big Sisters and a guest from Big Brothers Big Sisters will speak to the girls about how their work impacts the children involved in their program.
