Goldstein leads Illini to in-state victory over ISU

On Tuesday, University of Illinois baseball returned home to face off against in-state rival Illinois State University at Illinois field. The Illini took care of business against an expectedly inferior opponent, beating the Redbirds with a final score of 7-1.

It was a much needed victory for starting pitcher Andrew Mamlic who improved to 2-6 with the victory. Mamlic went for six innings giving up only one run and one walk. Quinten Sefcik and Nick Blackburn took on the final three innings and kept the score at 1.

The offense was again led by senior catcher Jason Goldstein who went 3-4 with a double and three RBIs. Goldstein also provided a solid performance behind the plate, digging many balls out of the dirt and picking off a runner at first base. Michael Hurwitz also made his offensive presence known going 2-3 for the evening with a walk and three runs scored.

The Illini will remain in Champaign over the weekend and are scheduled for games Friday, Saturday and Sunday against Saint Louis University at Illinois Field.
