In this episode:

  • The debut of our new regular feature Songs in 90 Seconds. Here we limit local bands to 90 seconds — and only 90 seconds — to show us what they’ve got. We kick things off in a big way with the Palace Flophouse whose song, “Missouri,” is a minute and a half of rocking pure folk/pop bliss. (We’ll have downloadable version of the song up early next week.)
  • An excerpt from P. Gregory Springer’s new book, Two Weeks in Guatemala with Ernie,  read by the author himself.
  • A review of the recent Patrick Earl Hammie exhibit at Parkland College, written and read by Daniel Wolff.
  • The first installment of the audio version of SP’s the Rainbow Connection.

Musical interludes this week provided by the Palace Flophouse who will be performing this Saturday (August 21) at the Cowboy Monkey with Miles Nielsen, Jet W. Lee and Mikey’s Imaginary Friends (9:30 p.m., $5). You can get their last album, Try Not to Get Worried, here.
