This process-oriented therapy group focuses on issues relevant to gay and bi men, such as coming out, developing friendships, STDs/HIV, being gay or bisexual at UIUC, deciding whether or not to be politically active, dating, online/smartphone relationships, romantic relationships, and exploration of one’s identity as a gay or bisexual man. Finally, this group is open to other topics (e.g. depression, anxiety, etc.) not related to one’s sexual orientation.

Bi Mix UP is an ongoing adult support/social group for members of the community who identify as bisexual or bi-questioning. Topics include dating, navigating relationships as bisexuals, coming out, and bi-phobia.

WHAT: An Evening With Keith Boykin: A Celebration of Black LGBT History Month

Keith Boykin will discuss his latest book, For Colored Boys Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Still Not Enough: Coming of Age, Coming Out, and Coming Home.

For Colored Boys responds to the crisis of youth development and suicide in the black community, specifically among young gay men of color. Following Boykin’s presentation, there will be a book signing and reception in room 314A Illini Union.

Play It UP is a social group for LGBTQA middle and high school youth. Play it UP is peer-led, adult-supported, and an official program of The UP Center. The facilitators of the group include two board members and the youth seat on the Board of Directors.

Youth involved in Play it UP organize monthly social events for LGBTQA youth to engage in, including movie nights, putt-putt, bowling, etc.

FRIDAY, February 8

WHAT: Third Annual Class It UP

WHERE: Silvercreek Restaurant

WHEN: Friday, Feb. 8, 5:30–7:30 or 8:30–11:00 p.m.

The UP Center of Champaign County invites you to Class It UP, their third annual benefit dinner supporting the UP Center and local LGBT efforts within our community.

The 5:30 p.m. dinner features a performance of love songs by local theatre group Stone Soup Theater Company. The 8:30 dinner time will have a showcase of female and male impersonators performing to the theme of love as well.

Both dinner times will feature a three-course meal consisting of a salad, an entree (fish, chicken, or vegan selections), and a plated dessert. Each service will include a cash bar prior to dinner being served (5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., respectively).

Between dinners, a silent auction is available consisting of generous donations from local businesses.

Seating is limited, and this event sells out every year, so don’t procrastinate! Tickets are $47, and can be purchased online until Monday, Feb. 4.

What’s UP is a group for LGBTQA people aged 18–25 to come together and work out problems, rant, socialize, philosophize, commiserate, speculate, or just plain talk. Every meeting will have a specific topic for discussion and possibly a speaker, who will help keep the discussion going and answer any questions that may be raised.

WHAT: Women of Pride

Women of Pride is a student group made for women, by women, as a safe place to gather. We informally educate the campus community of cultural, political, and other social issues related to lesbians, bisexual women, and transgender people. One of our goals is to foster a sense of community among queer women and our allies. We do this by gathering weekly for discussions, workshops, and events on or off campus.

WHAT: Sunday Night Drag Shows

C-Street hosts drag shows every Sunday, with different performers every week. The first Sunday of every month is Open Talent Night, hosted by Ceduxion Carrington, so anyone who wants to sing, dance, or give drag a try can compete for a cash prize.
