Week Nine: Stuck inside Ft. Myers with the Sarasota blues again

As I write this, I am sitting in a Travelodge in Ft. Myers, Florida. We’re down here for a little spring break vay-cay and to watch a few Minnesota Twins games at their training camp. Technically, week nine of The Yoga Experiment was last week, but it wasn’t really too eventful, and it is hard to think back to that mind frame when I am sitting here in this completely different world.

Friday evening after Joel got done with work, we left for Ohio so that we could drop the dogs off at my grandma’s house. Saturday we drove all day, and Sunday we rolled into Ft. Myers just in time to see the Twins wallop the Tampa Bay Rays. Monday we walked around downtown Sarasota, went to the beach, and visited the Ringling museums, which were pretty amazing, and yesterday we went to see two games: the Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Houston Astros, and the Twins vs. the Boston Red Sox.

I had grand plans to continue practicing yoga all through my trip, but it hasn’t been easy. I wanted to get a bit in on Saturday and Sunday, because we were going to be driving so much, but I normally take the weekends off anyway, so I didn’t really sweat it when it didn’t happen. Once Monday rolled around, though, I was feeling pretty lazy after walking around in museums all day, so I skipped it. Yesterday I was able to get on the mat, though, and I was really surprised how stiff my muscles were from riding around in the car so much. I made myself a mellow mix on iTunes and got my hour in before we had to check out of our motel, and I felt SO much better the rest of the day.

Normally when I am at home, it’s pretty convenient to just go to yoga class every day. Traveling has made me think a little bit about why I am doing this and my seriousness about the endeavor. Am I really putting my heart into this, or have I set myself onto auto-pilot? As I get further from my little bubble of C-U, some things are coming into perspective. More later, I need to go do some yoga.
