Alisa DeMarco lives in Champaign with her husband Jeff and cat Wayne. After graduating from the Culinary Institute of America in 2001, Alisa spent several years cooking in Austin before returning home to Champaign-Urbana. She is the chef/owner of Big Spoon custom culinary services and is an assistant at Prairie Fruits Farm goat cheese farm in Urbana.
With only five Markets left this year, it couldn't be a better season or weekend to visit the corner of Illinois and Vine streets in Urbana. With perfect weather in the forecast and probably one of your last chances to get summer's finest fruits and vegetables including heirloom tomatoes, beans, watermelon, corn and peaches, it would be a shame to let another Saturday morning pass you by. As always there is sure to be plenty of salad greens, basil, herbs, flowers, peppers, zucchini, summer squash and cucumbers, but as an added cross-season bonus, the acorn squash, pumpkins and other cool-weather root vegetables are starting to crop up.
In other news, the folks at First Fruits Farm are now taking orders for Thanksgiving turkeys, and you can sign up for one at their stand along Illinois street. As Lisa, the market director, points out on her blog, October brings a host of activities starting with the Second Annual Bicycle Rodeo this Saturday. C-U Safe Routes To School will be at the market from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. promoting safety and biking skills for kids, so bike on over to the Market to participate.
The Market on the Square runs every Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon, rain or shine now through November 8th. It is located in the parking lot of Urbana Square Mall on the corners of Vine and Illinois Streets.

Pretty skimpy piece but I guess you are not paid.
Squash if unbrused and kept on a shelf in a basement or conservation minded home with the degrees set a 60 degrees, will pretty much keep till spring. Don't try this with zucchini, better ask which ones work best.
Whats the name of that blog or is it a secret for cool people only? (Lisa ____ the marketing director)
Who puts on the Annual Bicyle Rodeo, and who is the contact person in case I want to donate or host one of my own at my company or nearby town? How long did it last? What ages? What does a Rodeo include, staying on a bucking Scwhinn?
Which company makes those Lamb Brats I like? And how do I contact that nice couple with the rainbarrels? Where the guys that had the Elk Sausage, can you find out when they will be there during the next five weekends since not all of us get alot of Saturdays off?
Like the president and his candidates say "its hard work." Like Seth says "I don't get paid for this" but some of us would like to know that you are unlike the president up to that "hard work" of writing more than a list of veggies.

LOL, yeah, looking forward to AD's submissions. Right. The people that complain the most are the most likely to do jack squat.
