About Justine Bursoni

Justine Bursoni

Justine Bursoni hails from Chicago. She tried as hard as possible to leave here, graduating after three years of Art History school. Krannert's OUTSIDE at the Research Park Series Starts Tonight

rosieguitar.jpg

Tonight, the U of I's Research Park is about to break out of the stale cubical feel and slip on something a little more exciting. Krannert Center of Performing Arts along with Fox/Atkins Development and the the Illinois Natural History Survey present the first of their three-show series of summer outdoor concerts appropriately named, OUTSIDE at the Research Park, beginning tonight, July 11 at 6:30 p.m. The public venue is located southwest of Assembly Hall on First St. in the Research Park on 1816 S. Oak St. in Champaign. Opening act is Champaign-Urbana's very own John Hoeffleur, of The Beauty Shop, and at 7:30 p.m., hailing from Louisiana, is the demanding presence of Rosie Ledet and the Zydeco Playboys. If you've never heard zydeco music, here's your chance. Don't miss it.

The next concert in the series — same time, same place — will be another local musician matched up with an out-of-town artist — on July 25, Brandon T. Washington along with Bandoleros. Then finally, to end the series on August 8, Kayla Brown will open for South Austin Jug Band from Austin, Tex.

According to Krannert Center's website, parking will be available in the lot south of the Caterpillar and SAIC building at 1901 S. First St. in Champaign. There is no cover charge.

Dinner, dessert and wine was brought in by Biaggi's, at very inexpensive prices. One could indulge in a snack of stuffed mushrooms for $3, spumoni for $2, wine and beer were also available. Some people chose not to support the event and bring coolers. It was unclear if this was "allowed."
This was the first year a charity was to featured with each event. At this event the Eastern Illinois Food bank had a booth with a raffle for two bicycles and a tote of organic cotton for sale.
I would finnish writing the rest of the article but its not my job.

Ad, you're a pip.

It was a free event for any and all to attend...just walk onto the lawn and claim a spot as yours. Of course it was "allowed" to bring your own food, and it's silly to suggest that those who did weren't supporting the event. And spare me the "not my job". Give me a break. The good people of Smile Politely are informing us all about these interesting events on their free time...it's not their job either. I for one appreciate them getting the word out about these events. It was such a fun night, with a HUGE crowd, and I'm really looking forward to the next two concerts!
