Performing for our pleasure once again: God-Des & She

Last October, during National Coming Out Week, God-Des & She graced our fine cities, thanks to an invitation from the University of Illinois LGBT Resource Center. I didn’t get to go to all of the events that week, but I did get to chat online briefly with God-Des and from all accounts everything went swimmingly.

And now the hip hop/rock/pop duo is returning to a larger (and better, in my opinion) venue — Emerald City Lounge. This concert is made possible due to the tenacity and drive of Amy Myers, who works at Emerald City and organizes the fantastic Lesbian Nights and drag shows that have been taking place there for the past year or so. When I talked with Amy recently, she said that she hadn’t been aware that God-Des & She had performed here last year:

I had no idea they were ever in Champaign. I first heard about them in Curve magazine, and I’ve been a fan ever since. I love the band and randomly emailed them, just trying to gather information. Three months went by, and when they emailed me back, I was shocked.

Amy told me that this is Emerald City Lounge’s first concert, and she’s been working very hard to bring lots of different events there:

This is our first concert and I am sure it will be a success. I have a lot of great ideas percolating inside my brain. I think what we’re doing here at Emerald City is important for the women of the community, but without all of them supporting the Lesbian Attack theme nights, concerts like this would not be possible. And a big thanks to the owners, Keith and Tim for allowing us to hold such amazing events in their establishment.

There will be a meet and greet following the show, with God-Des & She signing merch and talking with the crowd. “We are a small venue so it will be very hands-on,” Amy said.

When God-Des & She performed here last October, Smile Politely previewed them, and I’d love to repeat everything we’ve already said about them here, but that would be lame. If you’re interested check out the article. Tickets for Wednesday’s show are only $10 ($12 at the door), and you can purchase them here. The concert starts at 10:00 p.m. If you go, you’ll see me there, dancing poorly and grinning like an idiot. Have fun!

God-Des & She perform at Emerald City Lounge on Wednesday, June 20, at 10:00 p.m.
