One of C-U’s best music supply shops is The Upper Bout, and they’ll be celebrating their third birthday tonight at this party. Be in attendance to participate in a guitar giveaway, and chat up an associate for tips on honing your craft. This may not be an actual show, but the folks at this place are skilled at getting you on your way to having shows of your very own. Use the tools you’re given.

WHAT: The C-U Open Invite Cypher at the Canopy Club

WHERE: Canopy Club ($5)

WHEN: Thursday, Jan. 19th at 8:30 p.m.

The Open Invite Cypher is an open-mic specific to rap and hip-hop. Each emcee will be given 2-3 minutes to perform a rap or song over an instrumental, chosen and spun by the house DJ. There will be rap battles, and the event will be recorded for future release. Get up, throw down, and don’t miss it.

The 26th annual C-U Great Cover Up will run its first leg this weekend. Your favorite local bands will cover your favorite non-local bigtime bands, often in full masquerade (costumes and all) for your listening and viewing pleasure. This is one of the most fun local music events to occur every year. Check out the event page for the full lineup and more info. Who’s covering whom, you ask? Well, you’ll just have to show up to find out.

WHAT: Girls Rock! C-U Benefit House Concert

WHERE: Tjarks Cafe ($5 – $7 donation suggested)

WHEN: Saturday, Jan. 21st at 6:30 p.m.

This show has an eclectic bill consisting of R&B, emo, and folk music coming together to support Girls Rock! C-U, an awesome organization that puts on rock and roll camps for girls in the area. Put a few dollars towards supporting women in music, and take in some good tunes at the same time.
