Massachusetts punk outfit the Young Leaves are on their way to Springfield’s Dumb Fest, and they’re taking time this week to stop through on their way for a show. They’re joined by locals Bat Catman, who just released a new album called The Cat’s out of the Bag, Self Proclaimed Narcissit (now local as well),Weston Payne and Old Fox Road.

Seattle’s indie rock/pop musician Scott Reitherman, aka Pillar Point, makes a stop here at Mike ‘N Molly’s on Thursday. His recent release — a self-titled record — came out a few months ago on Polyvinyl Record. Do yourself a favor and check that out prior to this show this week. Joining Reitherman are a couple of locals, John Isberg’s project Tigerbeat and Jack Anthony & The Desperadoes.

Old Salt Union is a bluegrass outfit out of Belleville, and they make their way through town on Thursday evening. They’re joined by local singer-songwriter Justin Rondon.

WHAT: James Jones Trio

This blues trio, James Jones, Aaron Bouslog, and Michell Killough take the stage at Cowboy Monkey on Thursday night. They hail from Danville, and they’re slated to perform at the new festival in their hometown in September, Phases of the Moon Festival.

WHERE: Kalyx Center in Monticello ($5)

It’s always nice to see shows lined up out at the Kalyx Center — and this is a good one this weekend. The Hogchute Opry features a handful of bands all falling within the alt-country/Americana/folk realm, and for $5, good music and an awesome venue, this is a good one for a Saturday afternoon/evening.
