—————————————————————————————————————————

WHAT: J-Phlip, Autostep, DJ Belly

WHERE: Cowboy Monkey ($12)

WHEN: Thursday, November 13th, 10 p.m.

J-Phlip is a professional DJ, emphasis on “professional.” She’s from Champaign, so naturally Cowboy Monkey is a stop on her months-long “Everybody On The Floor” tour which takes her across the continent and over the pond to Europe.
—————————————————————————————————————————

WHAT: The Steepwater Band, James Jones Trio

WHEN: Friday, November 14th, doors at 7 p.m., show at 7:30 p.m.

Masters of blues rock The Steepwater Band have been honing their craft since forming in Chicago in 1998, so I’d be surprised if they put on a bad show.

—————————————————————————————————————————

WHAT: The Marathon Guitarkestra, The Tasers, Bonzo Madrid, Discoverer

WHERE: Mike ‘N Molly’s ($7)

WHEN: Friday, November 14th, doors at 8 p.m.

A “Guitarkestra” is probably exactly what you think it is, that is if you’re thinking it’s at least six guitars and at least two drummers building off each other into a face-melting crescendo.

This free show is a good chance to check out locals Nectar if you haven’t yet, and hear some songs not yet recorded, that didn’t appear on the band’s debut tape.

—————————————————————————————————————————

WHAT: Circa Survive, Title Fight, That’s No Moon

WHERE: The Highdive ($20 advance/$23 door)

WHEN: Sunday, November 16th, doors at 6 p.m., show at 7 p.m.

Circa Survive helped define “alternative” in the mid-2000s, and they’ve got a new album called Descensus as well. Title Fight have a similar story — a 2000s pop-punk band on their successful victory lap.
—————————————————————————————————————————

EDITOR’S PICK: MASKED INTRUDER, THE TIMMYS, ROBERTA SPARROW, GNARGOYLE
Error Records ($10) — Friday, November 14th at 8 p.m.

The ski-mask wearing, joke cracking, Blue, Green, Yellow and Red who make up Masked Intruder are a bunch of goofballs but play some very decent power pop that can force a smile out of the most clenched lips. An intimate show in the Error Records basement should be loads of fun. The supporting lineup of Springfield’s The Timmys and locals Roberta Sparrow and Gnargoyle is worth the $10 admission itself.
—————————————————————————————————————————
