Garrett Klahn is the frontman from Texas Is the Reason, an emo/alternative band that broke up around the turn of the century. Klahn explored other projects for a time and has settled on solo work. He’ll be playing tracks from his upcoming debut solo album, Motion for Action, with assistance from Tractor King.

Versatile hip-hop artist Larry June will bring some rhymes to Canopy on Wednesday, accompanied by Marleyy 76 and local up-and-coming alternative hip-hop and pop musician CJ Run.

Brother Brothers are a twin bluegrass duo from New York with vocal melodies strongly influenced by Simon & Garfunkel, and Hobnob String Band have been playing roots music in C-U for years. Enjoy the down-to-earth Americana tunes at no charge.

Unit One/Allen Hall brings us renowned satirist Roy Zimmerman, a musician who manages to poke fun while still maintaining a real respect for singer-songwriters.

IMC has an excellent showcase of producers and hip-hop artists for another session of their Producer Showcase. Three touring artists and one artist from the area will be performing, and audience participation will be encouraged at points.

Moon Hooch, a horn and percussion duo from Brooklyn, bring the improvisational techniques of jazz together with the energy and throb of electronic dance music to make for a compelling show.

WHAT: Rebecca Rego & The Trainmen w/ Elsinore & Church Booty

This is the celebration show for the release of the second full-length album, Lay These Weapons Down, from beloved local folk rockers Rebecca Rego & The Trainmen, which comes out on the same day. Elsinore will also be cranking out some fresh tunes including September’s Examples of Magnetism, and Church Booty never fails to bring the funk. This is gonna be a good one.

This will be a goth/industrial themed show in celebration of Halloween. Costumes are encouraged and dancing will be had. Although the lineup is yet to be announced, I think that that’s enough information to warrant attendance. Keep an eye on the event page as more info drops.

A mostly instrumental evening includes ambient rockers Take Care and tape looping by Arthur. Atsuko Chiba and Au Revoir bring the heavier sounds from Montreal and New Jersey, respectively.

Hey! Bentley’s is having a show on Friday. This will be a solo showcase featuring the stylings of some great local musicians. Isaac Arms, Brad Olson, Jared Roberts and Garrick N. will be performing for this rare show at an overlooked venue, so you should probably be there.

WHAT: My Empty Phantom with Snayl and The Autocorrect

WHERE: Loose Cobra in Tolono (cover unknown)

WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 22nd at 8 p.m.

Head out to Tolono on Saturday for some good post-rock and instrumental music featuring My Empty Phantom, a loop-based, multi-instrumentalist from Austin. Also playing will be locals Snayl and The Autocorrect.

WHAT: Hopsin with Joyner Lucas and Token

WHERE: Canopy Club ($20 in advance/$25 door)

WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 22nd at 9 p.m.

A full hip-hop show at Canopy on Saturday features Hopsin, a rapper who is also an emcee, producer, director, actor, and editor, and created his own record label, Funk Volume. This show has a meet-and-greet ticket option available that, for $100, includes autographs, pictures, and skateboarding. (Skateboarding? I’m not sure in what capacity, but it sounds like fun.)

WHAT: Conscious House Concert #5

WHERE: Ananda Liina in Urbana (donations)

WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 22nd at 8 p.m.

The latest session of Conscious House Concerts will put all of its proceeds towards helping Haiti recover from the devastation of hurricane Matthew. David Finn, Teaspoon Hunter, Jason Reinglass, and Dada Dhiirabhadra will be the participants, performing mostly singer-songwriter and acoustic music to benefit the cause.
