WHAT: Zeds Dead with Illienium and Hunter Siegel

Zeds Dead, the DJ duo from Canada that helped pioneer the EDM craze, have been selling out shows at venues and festivals everywhere for years. They’re rolling into town for not one but two nights at Canopy. Both shows are sold out, so I hope you grabbed a ticket.

WHAT: Single Player/Schwervon!/Real Live Tigers/Isaac Arms & The Extremities

WHERE: Blips & Chitz ($5 donation for touring bands)

WHEN: Wednesday, Oct. 12th at 8 p.m.

This packed rock show has bands both touring and local, and a band put together by members of local favorites: Withershins, the Acme Principle, and Finer Feelings. These guys won’t be jamming together for long, so make sure you catch this one while you can.

WHEN: Wednesday, Oct. 12th at 9 p.m.

This funky band with a weird name will be filling up Canopy with brassy and soulful psychedelic jams halfway through the week.

WHAT: C-U Jazz Festival

WHERE: Various venues in the area (Most shows are $5)

WHEN: Thursday, Oct. 13th – Sunday, Oct. 16th

This celebration of all things jazz in C-U will feature shows all over the area – Iron Post, Upper Bout, both public libraries and many more. Engage in the healthy jazz culture of the area in many ways over this weekend. Check the website for more details.

WHAT: Palm & And the Kids

WHERE: The Accord ($10 advance/$13 door)

WHEN: Friday, Oct. 14th at 8 p.m.

Experimental act Palm provide disjointed tempos and melodies that mix for an interesting sound. And The Kids add beachy chimes to that theme.

WHAT: Hogchute Opry Harvest

WHERE: Kalyx Center in Monticello ($10 at the gate)

WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 15th, starting at 2 p.m.

Hogchute Opry, the fantastic local folk festival that takes place in a barn in late spring, is so popular that those who run it decided once a year wasn’t enough. They are hosting the event’s inaugural fall session this weekend – Hogchute Opry Harvest. A dozen local folk, country, and rock bands will get together to play music in a cozy barn. There will also be a food truck, camping, band-audience jamming and a great big bonfire. Don’t miss this event.

WHAT: Art of Time Ensemble Performs Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band

WHERE: Krannert Center (tickets start at $10)

WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 15th at 7:30 p.m.

This unique event will feature Art of Time, a chamber music ensemble, performing the legendary Beatles album. Vocals will be provided by members of assorted rock music fame, including Stephen Page of the Barenaked Ladies.

WHAT: Moon Taxi

WHERE: Canopy Club ($16 advance/$18 door)

WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 15th at 9 p.m.

Alternative pop group Moon Taxi have made many TV appearances during their upwards climb. You may also have heard their song “Mercury” in a commercial. They’ll bring some breeziness with them on Saturday, and will be accompanied by some synth acts.

WHAT: Rum N’ Reggae Party

WHERE: Fluid Event Center ($5, free if you wear pirate garb)

WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 15th at 6 p.m.

This pirate-themed event involves tastings of rum, tequila and much more for a ticket exchange (tickets priced at 75 cents). There will also be reggae and DJ music, making for a fun evening. Giveaways and door prizes will also be available. Check the site for more details.

WHERE: Loose Cobra in Tolono

WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 15th at 8 p.m.

Dreamy indie favorites Motes will hang out in Tolono on Saturday to play at Loose Cobra, an old haunt of theirs. They will be accompanied by Employer and koalasarevicious on this one.
