This trio of performers is slated for the Beast Friends Forever tour with a couple of Illinois guys in Jon Walker and Mark Rose, plus PA’s Lucas Carpenter. All three are singer-songwriters and have been making their way around the South and Midwest regions for this tour. All three have a similar blend of acoustic based material under their belt, so if that’s your thing, this is your show.

WHEN: Thursday, September 6th at 7 p.m.

Taste of Peru 2012 is presented by Association of Peruvian Students (APS), and is bringing some traditional Peruvian music to the Union on Thursday. Hathaways and Tom Turino will be the musical guests, and there will even be Peruvian food (Lomo Saltado, Aji de Gallina, Papa a la Huancaína, Causa and Inca Kola). Dig in.

Some funk-infused rock hits Canopy, a place which is featuring a little bit of everything this week, apparently. Chicago’s Strange Arrangment headlines in what should be a jam-filled bill with locals Sonny Stubble and Minnesota’s Roster McCabe.

WHAT: Jazz Walk 

WHERE: Meadowbrook Park (free)

WHEN: Friday, September 7th at 5:30 p.m.

Urbana Park District’s all ages event is returning this year for it’s 8th year with a big group of local jazz musicians to hang out and listen to while you’re out in the park. Some of the acts include New Orleans Jazz Machine, Rick Kubetz & Terry Bush, DR Dixie Band, Jonathan Beckett & Young Kim and many more. Hopefully the weather holds out for this one and you get to enjoy some smooth jazz before the fall really starts to take over. Not to mention, we’re a sponsor for the event, so get out there and walk.

The students are back on campus, which means the Chalice Dubs Masquerade is back as well. The EDM-filled bill features Dieselboy from Brooklyn and a handful of others and features a bunch of locals. Prepare to sweat if you’re looking to go to this one.

WHAT: La Excelencia, Samba Soul, DJ Fede

WHERE: Krannert Center for the Performing Arts ($5)

WHEN: Saturday, September 8th at 6 p.m.

Saturday marks the beginning of the 2012–2013 schedule for Krannert Center in what should be another busy year for them. They’ve got an opening night party slated for everyone, featuring La Excelencia, an 11-piece salsa outfit from the Bronx, plus some others to surround them. There will be other activites there for children, and tons of food there provided by El Toro, Siam Terrace, Shanghai 1938, Caribbean Grill, Destihl, and Marble Slab Creamery, so that’s an option as well if you’re looking to get out of the house with the kids.

EDITOR’S PICK: 3RD ANNUAL C-U PRIDEFEST
88 Broadway (free) — Saturday, September 8th at 12 p.m.

The 3rd annual C-U Pride Festival takes place this weekend and this lineup is all over the board. Tons of different acts playing basically all day Saturday, starting at Noon and going all night over in the Lincoln Square Mall/88 Broadway.

Tracy previewed the whole thing for us earlier this morning, and she’ll also take a closer look later this week at Jariko, aka Jared Yates, who is the main act this year, but all together, you have a chance to see a lot of acts. Stephen Leonard, Abe Froman Project, Youth Drag, The Dirty Feathers, Davina & The Vagabonds, Duke of Yuke & His Novelty Orchestra, Carnivale Debauche, and DJ Milk ‘N Cookies to name some locals and non-locals. Check out the whole lineup of performers and the schedule to see what the whole day has in store.

Country rockers Outbound Drive are slated for three sets (yes, three) over at Cowboy Monkey on Saturday night. Each set will be about an hour long, starting at 9:30 and running until 1:15 a.m.

WHAT: Rock for Humanity

WHERE: Canopy Club ($5 advance/$8 door)

WHEN: Saturday, Septmeber 8th at 10 p.m.

Rock for Humanity is a charity fund-raiser concert for Habitat for Humanity. The list of artists includes Late Nite Heroics, The Dirty Gentlemen, Oso Furioso, Hip Hop Trio, and Denton Hird of Year of The Bobcat. Alpha Rho Chi, a co-ed professional fraternity on campus is hosting the event, and all proceeds go directly to Habitat for Humanity.
