Marissa Monson recently returned to Champaign-Urbana, where she earned a bachelor's of journalism from University of Illinois in 2004. She freelances fulltime and works parttime at Jane Addams Book Shop to support a serious book-buying habit. She loves hip-hop and soul music. The first album she owned was Janet Jackson's "Control." She never looked back.
Local and organic food has made a surge in the last few years with a growing number of American families putting local and organic grub on the dinner table. Tonight, the Illinois Local and Organic Food and Farm Task Force is coming for you. Not to hand out slaps on the wrist for your food infractions, but rather to get some feedback on how the public views Illinois’ food systems.
In Champaign-Urbana, health-conscious folks can pick up organic and local goods at Urbana’s Market at the Square (Lincoln Square Village) every Saturday morning, or everyday at Common Ground Food Co-op (Springfield Avenue and Sixth Street), a local cooperatively-owned grocery store slated to move into new, larger digs this summer.
Meet up tonight at the Urbana Civic Center to talk about what you’ve been putting on your fork. Topics range from consumer access to local and organic foods and its production in Illinois. If you eat food, the task force wants your opinions.
Speakers at tonight’s discussion include Urbana Mayor Laurel Prussing, and Dr. Wesley Jarrell from University of Illinois, along with Debbie Hillman and Jim Braun from Illinois Local and Organic Food and Farm Task Force.
The session begins at 7 p.m. and is located at the Urbana Civic Center at 108 E. Water St. in downtown Urbana.

Hey! I'd like to thank all 60-75 people that came tonight - a great turnout! The Task Force is leaving town with some terrific information and a few ideas they hadn't heard yet. It's all about the food, y'all, it's all about the food.
Thanks!
