Bend the Arc: CU is hosting a workshop on confronting white nationalism in schools

Bend the Arc: CU is presenting a workshop on August 15th from 6:45 to 9 p.m. featuring Nora Flanagan, a Chicago high school teacher and co-author of Confronting White Nationalism in Schools – A Toolkit, a guide to identifying and preventing white nationalist recruitment of school-age children.

The toolkit is published and distributed nationally by the Western States Center.
The recent white-nationalist-fueled shootings in Gilroy and El Paso join a growing list that includes Charleston, Pittsburgh, Christchurch NZ, and Poway as deadly examples of why white nationalist ideology must be stopped before it takes root. And based on what white nationalists themselves say, they are targeting school children. Andrew Anglin, who runs the neo-Nazi website “Daily Stormer,” brags that his group targets children as young as 11.

Based on her experience confronting everything from racist graffiti in a school bathroom to more esoteric manifestations of white nationalist ideology, Flanagan will bring a wealth of knowledge to this workshop. It’s information that every parent, teacher, and administrator needs to know in today’s internet-saturated environment.

The free workshop will be held at Sinai Temple at 3104 Windsor Road, and reservations are required due to limited space. Free tickets are available on the Bend the Arc: CU Facebook page or at their website.
