Urbana-Champaign Books to Prisoners has their annual spring book sale on the books — the date will be March 30th, and the event will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Books to Prisoners is a local iteration of the nationwide Books to Prisoners network, and provides books and librarian services to inmates in the downtown Urbana jail, the satellite jail located in Champaign, and by mail to several other prison institutions across the state. The book sale, as well as the rest of the program, is volunteer organized and run, and has been a consistent fundraising effort for the organization for many years. The Spring Book Sale is a great way to pick up new-to-you reading material, and support a part of the community that’s often overlooked.
