I’ve posted a few times recently about the new Braid record, which comes out today on Topshelf Records, because this is their first record in 16 years. Pretty big deal in my mind at least, and plenty of others.
Over the past few days, the band has been getting a decent amount of praise on the ever-controversial (and frankly, polarizing) Pitchfork in the form of a couple of pieces from Ian Cohen (again — not always the most-liked contributor of theirs). First, a pretty cool piece “Never Will Come for Us: The Unexpected Return of Braid and the Jazz June” that published yesterday, and today’s featured review of their new record No Coast, which was given a very solid 7.7 (yeah — their rating system is controversial in and of itself).
Either way, both are worth the read, as Ian Cohen seems to particularly like midwest emo and another Champaign-Urbana artist as well.
