The Smackin’ Food Truck is the newest mobile eatery to hit the streets of Champaign-Urbana. This is its first week of operation; the Southern-style soul food menu changes daily. I stopped by the truck yesterday afternoon for lunch (smothered chicken, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, a roll, and cookies). Plates are $10, and you get a protein and two sides, as well as a roll and dessert.
The chicken I had yesterday was absolutely delicious. It was fall off the bone tender and flavorful. I shared with the spouse, but quite frankly, I should have ordered my own. The mashed potatoes (gravy on the side) and mac and cheese were also good. I’m looking forward to trying more things this weekend.
