Last week at the Farmers’ Table

Gillian and I took my parents to the Farmers’ Table last Saturday at the Red Herring. It’s a Slow Food gathering where the organizers purchase produce at the Urbana Farmer’s Market on Saturday morning and prepare it Saturday night. Tony Cherolis reviewed the first week, and we met intrepid News-Gazette reporter Amy Reiter at last week’s dinner, which she discussed in Wednesday’s paper. If you’re headed to the Market this morning, stop by the Tiny Greens booth and make reservations, or call Erin at 217.840.9388. It’s $20 a head, it’s happening from 7 to 9 p.m., and they accept cash. If this week doesn’t work for you, they’ll be doing it every Market Saturday.

I’m no foodie, so I’m not going to write a review, but Gillian took these pictures so you know what things looked like. Here’s the menu:

The first course was sliced radishes with olive oil on a bed of radish greens, served with a baguette:

Next up were mixed greens, topped with walnuts, strawberries, and goat cheese:

Mmmm, salad:

The main course was spicy polenta cakes with Provencal fennel sauce and asparagus:

And for dessert, blueberry shortcake:
