Most of MTD’s service to resume on Green Street today

From the press release:

Most MTD Service to Resume on Green Street Monday

Champaign-Urbana, IL—As road construction for the Multimodal Corridor Enhancement Project (MCORE) winds down for the winter, Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District (MTD) buses will be returning to the heart of Campustown next week. Beginning Monday, December 4, 2017, MTD Green Street reroutes on the University of Illinois campus related to the MCORE project will be lifted except the 5/50 Green and GREENhopper, which will remain on reroute for several more weeks (but will begin to serve Illini Union on Monday as well). The routes returning to their regular route on Monday, December 4 are the 2/20 Red, 8 Bronze,  12/120 Teal, 13/130 Silver, 21 Raven, and 22/220 Illini.

New “bus only” lanes have been added to Green Street, as well as a pedestrian island and new bus stops. Most notably, service to the Illini Union has changed. The south side Green Street stop has been moved east and will operate as a single stop where all MTD routes will serve one platform. The north side Green Street stop has been split into two stops, a traditional curbside stop and an island stop in the middle.

“We have been training all of our Operators on these changed routes and stops, and they are now ready to help educate our passengers and public,” said Adam Shanks, MTD’s Safety & Training Director. “We know that our entire community has had to make adjustments to accommodate the MCORE Project and want them to know that we’re here to help answer any questions they have as we begin service to this newly revamped street.”

These routing changes will be reflected in the real-time information available at cumtd.com or via various transit apps. MTD asks those with questions to contact them at 217.384.8188 and to follow them on Facebook or Twitter for more information.

This map shows the new configuration of Green Street and the specific MTD routes that stop at each location.
