The One Book One Campus selection for this academic year is Heads of the Colored People by Nafissa Thompson-Spires, and she will be visiting on Wednesday, October 9th for a lecture, reception, and book signing at the Illini Union.
Until just recently, Thompson-Spires was an Assistant Professor of English and African American Studies here at the University of Illinois. Her book of short stories, which through her characters give us glimpses into the diverse experiences of black Americans, has been longlisted for the National Book Award. It’s an engrossing read and if you haven’t read it yet, then please do so. You can find it at the Illini Union Bookstore, if you want to get some reading in before Wednesday, and it will also be for sale at the event.
The event will be from 7 to 9 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
