Songs in 90 Seconds: “The Old Red Rooster” by Paul Kotheimer

The latest entry to our Song in 90 Seconds series comes from local singer/songwriter Paul Kotheimer. It’s called “The Old Red Rooster” and here’s the story behind it:

“The Old Red Rooster” was written in a flash of inspiration in the Spring of 2009, after attending a house concert of experimental music at La Casa Grande Collectiva in Urbana. On a lark, its text may or may not be the long-lost verses to the children’s song, “Which Came First, the Chicken or the Egg?”

The song will be featured on Kotheimer’s upcoming album The Kilogram of Gold, which will be his 11th for Handmade Records. He expects The K of G to be released this fall.

Though he has no official live shows planned at the moment, Kotheimer plans to participate in the Songwriter’s Circle, scheduled for every other Wednesday beginning in March at the Urbana-Champaign IMC.
