The Big Fat Ugly eating contest coming to Campustown on Quad Day

The Champaign Center Partnership is thrilled to partner with Fat Sandwich in Campustown to bring you the First Annual Big Fat Ugly Eating Contest on Sunday, August 24th at 4 p.m. at Fat Sandwich located on John Street in Campustown.

“We were absolutely devastated when a huge storm blew through the area during our Summer Stage event at the end of July causing us to cancel the eating contest that was scheduled for the evening and the concert as well,” Executive Director Erin Lippitz said. “Our staff and event committee really wanted to see this contest happen and give that area of Campustown some attention with this event so we’re making a second attempt at it.”

The contest will take place on Quad Day to encourage the students exploring Campus that day to stop by the restaurant to watch the contest and even participate in it.

“Our goal is to introduce that part of Campustown to the students, especially the freshman and transfers,” Lippitz said. “There are great businesses on John Street, as well as Daniel just one street over, that we really want our student population to discover. And this contest gives them one more fun event to participate in that day.”

Contestants will be asked to attempt to eat the 7-pound Big Fat Ugly sandwich in 15 minutes or under. Contestants do not necessarily have to finish the sandwich to win the contest. The three contestants that get the closest will be awarded prize bags containing gift cards and swag from Campustown businesses.

Up to 10 contestants may enter the contest and space still remains. Interested contestants should contact Erin with any questions at [email protected] or visit the website champaigncenter.com and click on the eating contest entry button on the homepage. Contestants must fill out an entry form in order to participate.
