U of I staff informed of capital plan approval

U of I President Joseph White sent out an email to all U of I staffers today earlier today detailing the local projects earmarked in the $31 billion capital spending plan approved by Gov. Quinn on Monday. The plan included $181.8 million in projects specifically for the UIUC campus, including:

  • $57.3 million to renovate Lincoln Hall.
  • $20 million to construct a Post Harvest Crop Processing and Research Laboratory.
  • $44.5 million to construct an Electrical and Computer Engineering Building.
  • $60 million for the Petascale supercomputing facility is included in the state Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) budget.

White related that while there are additional hurdles before this funding becomes a reality, “I believe there is a strong desire by the Governor and the General Assembly to move forward on these projects, and I am optimistic that the process will continue with urgency.”

The News-Gazette ran a wire service story yesterday looking at the capital appropriations bill as a whole.

Tip ‘o the hat to Todd Spinner for passing this along.
