Urbana Summer Movie Night to feature Breaking Away on July 11th

Here’s an event that’s coming up in Downtown Urbana that’s worth your time. The City of Urbana has partnered up with a handful of other organizations and businesses, including CoLab, Neutral Cycle and others, to bring a night of outdoor movie screening to Downtown. Check out the poster below, plus the synopsis of the film from the poster.

More than 30 years after its release, 1979’s Breaking Away is still one of the most beloved coming-of-age films ever made, and its zero-to-hero rise from a tiny, under-the-radar movie with no major stars to a sleeper hit and Best Picture nominee is one of Hollywood’s great underdog stories.

Here’s some more information from the press release as well:

Families and community members are invited to the free outdoor screening of Breaking Away (PG, 1979) on Friday July 11 at 8:00 pm. The event, presented by @urbanalove, will be held at the Busey Bank parking lot in downtown Urbana. Please bring chairs or blankets for sitting. This will be the second installment of @urbanalove’s Summer Movie Nights series, which aims to bring the Urbana community together for an evening of film, food, drinks, and live music.

This month’s bicycle-themed event will begin with a casual bike ride at 5:30 pm. Riders old and new are welcome to gather at the Campus Bike Center (608 E. Pennsylvania Ave.) for the journey to Busey Bank in downtown Urbana.

The featured film, Breaking Away, is a classic summer story of bicycle racing and coming-of-age in a small Midwestern college town.

@urbanalove, dedicated to retweeting local news and events, is partnering with Busey, the City of Urbana, and Neutral Cycle. Pandamonium Doughnuts, Common Ground, Pizza M, and Flying Machine Coffee will have movie snacks and cold beverages available for purchase.

Neutral Cycle, a local independent bicycle shop, will announce a new city-wide bike-sharing program called Big Yellow Ride. They will also unveil a cycling bag prototype created by Neutral Design studio.

More information is available at neutralcycle.com/movie and the Neutral Cycle Facebook page.
