Comcast Takes Over For Insight; Raises Rates On April 2

Attention all Insight customers in Champaign County: you can say goodbye to your Insight prices. Comcast, the nation’s largest cable company, bought out the other half of their partnership with Insight Communications and has fully moved into town. With over 24 million cable customers, Comcast now serves Champaign-Urbana, Peoria, Quincy-Macomb, Rockford-Dixon, and Springfield cable television systems in Illinois.

Comcast is instituting new prices which reflect the change in service as of April 2. The majority of their services and equipment prices will increase between one and three dollars. Fliers have been mailed out to current Insight customers notifying their clients of the price changes.

A local Comcast representative was not available for comment, however, local Insight representative who wished to remain anonymous said, “Comcast has always owned 50% of Insight. So now they are just completely taking us over. They are one of the top cable service providers in the country.”

As of January 1, employees currently hired at Insight have remained in their job positions but have switched over as Comcast employees.

Comcast will take over Insight’s former building at 303 E Fairlawn Dr, in Urbana.
