Candidate Pomonis Delivers Transparency in School District Spending

Citizens of Champaign can now expect more transparency regarding the Unit 4 school district’s financial records and expenditures.

Anthony Pomonis, a lifelong Champaign resident and current candidate for County Board in District 7 proposed a way to make information readily available to taxpayers via a pdf document online on a monthly basis, detailing money expenditures including “the check number, date, name of the vendor, and a brief explanation of the expense” in order for people to better understand how their tax dollars are being spent.

On November 4, Champaign will be asked to vote on a referendum that would increase sales tax by 1%, which would directly benefit spending in the school district.

“By creating greater access to this information, taxpayers can take a first-hand look at the basic operating cost associated with education, giving them a better understanding as to why the district is in need of more tax revenues.” Pomonis stated in a press release.
