Brandon Bowersox and Kevin Johnson were united by civil union on Friday, June 3, 2011 at the Champaign County Courthouse. Judge Ford performed the ceremony.

Brandon is the son of Kathy and Van Bowerox of Champaign. Kevin is the son of Cheryl Johnson of St. Joseph, IL.

Brandon Bowersox is a graduate of University High School and the University of Illinois, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Math.

Brandon is Director of Technology at OJC Technologies. He is also an Urbana City Council Member.

Kevin Johnson graduated from Urbana High School. He attended Eastern Illinois University (B.S. Recreation Administration), the University of Illinois (Masters of Education), and Nova Southeastern University, where he studied Instructional Technology & Distance Education (ABD).

Kevin is CEO of The Cutting Ed, Inc. and the President of The UP Center of Champaign County.

Both reside in Urbana, IL.

Brandon and Kevin met 9 1/2 years ago at a GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network) meeting. They were friends for four months before they started dating. They are both active in their community, and adopted a son, Garrett Bowersox-Johnson, at birth four years ago.

“Our union and changing of our names (Brandon Bowersox-Johnson & Kevin Bowersox-Johnson) is truly celebration of [Garrett]. It means a lot to us to be recognized as a family.”
