Smile Politely

On to the Ale House

The Yale game was really boring. Everyone slept through the first 18 minutes, including both teams.

For the sake of posterity, I’ll make a few comments. I’m sure no one will want to read them now, especially not those who watched the game. Those who slept through it may find reassurance.

Close-ish through the first half, neither team seemed capable or interested. Finally, Demetri McCamey, probably exhausted by the ennui, took over. Perhaps fed up with his teammates’ lackaday attempts at ball-through-hoop, Meechi quit the passing, and instigated a dribble-drive offense.

Me likey.

Me also likey Mike Tisdale’s lone attempt at dribble-drive, not just because it worked, but because I dig absurdity. I will not see many seven-footers attempt a crossover from the top of the key. And hey, it worked.

Tisdale speared thirteen rebounds. Dmac was the MVP. And here are Mysterious McDade’s amazing pictures.

NOW, TO THE REALLY IMPORTANT STUFF

I like beer.

This weekend, the Illini travel to Kalamazoo, Michigan. You should too.

Kalamazoo is one of the great American cities. I like the neighborhoods and the culture. I like the restaurants and the B&B’s. Museums, live music and theatre compliment the sports – good for spontaneous romantic weekend possibilities.

Also, they make beer.

This weekend, stoners will enjoy Greensky Bluegrass at Bell’s Eccentric Cafe. I’ll be there too, smoking some Best Brown Ale. Daddy Warbucks, the inspiration for John Calipari, will appear with Annie at The Civic Theatre. The Kalamazoo Valley Museum and Art Institute are free. There’s also the Air Zoo.

Best of all, an intimate-yet-legitimate college basketball arena awaits you. Tickets are available at MAC prices, and every seat is a good one.
