Christie Clinic and six other local buyers have purchased the Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon from its North Dakota owner and executive director, the clinic announced Monday morning.

In an attempt at cost-cutting, officials of the University of Illinois are proposing the closing of the Institute of Aviation at the Urbana-Champaign.
The 54-year-old program has 107 students working toward degrees and 48 students in a professional pilot program. Current students could finish their work. It is the first proposed program elimination under the “Stewarding Excellence” process to save money and generate revenue

The Champaign school district’s budget shows a $3.7 million deficit for the current fiscal year.
The school board approved the fiscal year 2011 budget Monday night.
The budget shows nearly $98 million in revenue and $101.67 million in expenditures. Those figures are for all operating funds and exclude the debt service and capital project funds, which are for specific purposes and not the daily operation of the school district.

Former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s lead attorney wants a judge to release him from the defense team ahead of Blagojevich’s retrial on corruption charges, another attorney in the case said Thursday.
Sam Adam Jr., 38, who delivered a sometimes theatrical opening and closing at Blagojevich’s first trial, will ask to withdraw from the case at a Friday hearing, said Blagojevich attorney Sheldon Sorosky. U.S. District Judge James Zagel has the final say in whether Adam can leave.
