This week, SameSexSunday chats with legendary LGBT activist and UniteHere! labor organizer, Cleve Jones, who stopped by to discuss the National Lesbian and Gay Journalist Association and the sometimes shaky relationship between the LGBT movement and labor.
Also in interviews, the Marriage Equality USA Language Project‘s James Hoscyns discusses crossing cultural barriers.
The Round Table discussion (sponsored by LGBT-owned and operated database makers, Wells Consulting), includes Ken Mehlman’s coming out, a flurry of announcements regarding “Don’t ask, don’t tell,” the momentum of the Target boycott, what the primaries have meant for the LGBT community, and more.
Joining the discussion are veteran and author of Sugar-Baby Bridge Brett Edward Stout and Field and Development Director for Servicemembers United Jarrod Chlapowski. Both of these veterans have a lot to say about many topics, especially the ongoing “Don’t ask, don’t tell” discharges.
Also joining the discussion are returning guests Victory Fund Vice President Denis Dison and Treasurer of National Stonewall Democrats Chris Massicotte. Talk it UP is a peer-run LGBTQ support group for middle and high-school youth. LGBTQ youth can expect an atmosphere of acceptance and support while meeting other LGBTQ youth. The group is co-facilitated by two UP Center board members (one teacher, one social worker); however the group is led by the youth participants.

WHAT: BI PRIDE (a new student organization for bisexual people and allies)

This group is brand new, and many aspects of it have yet to be determined.
- It will serve as a weekly discussion group where we can have a dialogue about issues affecting bi people and bisexuality.
- The group will be designed to help build a bi community and network on campus and in the community.
- Hopefully Bi Pride can serve as a vehicle for resisting and rejecting stereotypes affecting bi people.
- Bi Pride is intended to be welcoming of not only students who identify as “bisexual” or “bi,” but also as “pansexual” or “queer.”
- Bi Pride also welcomes people who do not identify as any of the above, but who would like to be allies to bi people.

What does it look like to combine sexuality with spirituality? Look UP is a discussion group for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, and queer individuals where we provide a safe environment to meet people, hang out, and discuss these two ideas and how they can and do coexist. Our goal is to bring together people from the LGBTQ community that have shared experiences, and allow them the freedom to explore these subjects in a respectful, peer-mediated setting.

WHAT: ShapeUP: Fitness Cycling Group

Purpose: to convene a group of LGBTQA folks from the C-U area who are interested in fitness cycling. We provide weekly training information, that will culminate in the Pumpkin Pie Ride in Ottawa, IL on Sunday, October 3rd.

Latter Days is the story of 19-year-old Elder Aaron Davis, a sexually confused Mormon missionary who moves into an apartment complex in West Hollywood with a fellow group of missionaries. There he meets a neighbor, Christian, who, on a bet, tries to seduce him. When Christian exposes Davis’ secret desire, Davis rejects Christian for being shallow and empty.
