It’s not every week that an act from overseas decides to stop in town, and tomorrow night the Canopy Club has Brighton England’s indie-rock post-punk revivalists British Sea Power.
From their great frantic spazztastic debut The Decline of British Sea Power, and their excellent sophomore effort, Open Season, the “Power” are now on tour supporting their latest full length, Do You Like Rock Music?
Sometimes compared to Joy Division or Echo and the Bunnymen, British Sea Power’s closest present day contemporaries would be more along the lines of the Arcade Fire and Interpol. Whatever the influence, anticipate a great live show with the band playing as a six piece, translating the newest album’s stadium sound into a fist pumping live show.
If there are three sure fire signs that spring is in session, they are:
(1) The snow melts away and all the plants and animals come back to life.
(2) The invernal equinox, March 21st, passes by on the calendar.
(3) National and trans-national bands start touring through Urbana-Champaign: just look at the array of talent coming through town in the coming weeks.
So come celebrate the arrival of spring, March 22 at the Canopy Club. British Sea Power will be there, as will the rest of a great lineup consisting of BSP tour mates and Parasol recording artists, The 1900s, and local up and coming group Common Loon starting things off.
Doors open at 8 p.m., and show time is at 9:30 p.m.
Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the gate. It’s in the Void Room, so the capacity is extremely limited.
