New releases to make going back to school feel good…

Incoming!

This week we gladly embrace new (and very recent) releases from Mew, Jay Reatard, Pissed Jeans, Antlers, a spooky new EP from Blitzen Trapper, The Cave Singers, 16 Horsepower (Secret South reissue on CD & DVD), Black Sheep (Julian Cope’s new head trip), Farmer Dave Scher (Beachwood Sparks dude), that effin’ cool (and star-studded) Love & Rockets Tribute, Six Organs of Admittance (Ben from Comets On Fire), British shoegaze-torch-folkies Sophia (think Tindersticks, but sadder), a collaboration between David Daniell (San Agustin) & Douglas McCombs (Tortoise), expanded reissues of Radiohead’s mid-period output in 2 formations (DCD or DCD & DVD), classic ‘80s albums reissued and expanded for Housemartins, The Truth and The Cult…and yes, a new album from Madness!

Wax on!

On the vinyl front we’re expecting wax for a majority of the releases mentioned above; new 12″ EPs from Tortoise, Canyons, Destroyer, Spoon and Brown Recluse Sings (on Slumberland); a repressing of the Wooden Shjips ‘Contact’ 12″ on Mexican Summer; LPs by Reigning Sound, Datarock. Ducktails, Eels, Brendan Benson, Mew, Lokia, Crippled Black Phoenix and Jack Penate; plus a Sic Alps DLP and a Palms remix LP; 45s by Fergus & Geronimo (on Woodsist), Sic Alps (on Slumberland), Higher Giant and O Paon; Flaming Lips ‘Soft Bulletin’ on 180g DLP with a bonus CDEP; and nifty vinyl reissue action for Blue Cheer, Charley Patton, John Fahey, Lucinda Williams, Claudine Longet…

Rockin’ our world!

In recent weeks, advance copies of a few upcoming releases, chiefly. Like local duo (formerly known as Casados) You & Yourn’s Parasol debut, chamber folk with lush harmonies; the howling white-noise-shoegaze hybridization on 2nd effort from NYC’s loudest band, A Place To Bury Strangers, now signed to Mute; a compelling odds-n-sods collection by Peach State electro-rockers Maserati; and the upcoming vinyl-only juggernaut from Norwegian muso-prog-alchemists Motorpsycho, which harkens back to their ‘Trust Us’ and ‘Angels & Daemons’ era. In the present we’re spinning the new Six Organs of Admittance for the first time this morning and it folded time and space in a way most pleasing; wyrdfolk going for baroque.
