Rock the Mic at Radio Maria

There’s not much more that Radio Maria could do to coax in guests. If you’re not stricken by the smooth ambiance, variety of Spanish tapas and exquisite fusion food, maybe you should check your pulse (just in case).

Wednesday open mic nights with Jake Fleischli from The Tractor Kings and Jared Roberts of Zero-Base give everyone just one more reason to mosey over to downtown Champaign and celebrate hump day.

Fleischli has been a friend of the restaurant for years, and his former roommate is head line chef for Radio Maria; it seemed only natural for the tunes and tapas collaboration, which commenced about a month ago. Although Radio Maria hasn’t publicized open mic nights, they say they’ve had a decent turn out so far.

The mic is open to everyone 19 years and older in the tapas section of the restaurant. No need to sign up ahead of time; just show up and sign up on the sheet. After the slots are filled, Fleischli plays during any down time. The night begins at 10 p.m. and ends when the restaurant closes at 2 a.m.

Whether you’re a fan of eating, listening, strumming or just kicking back and watching, this Wednesday would be the perfect opportunity to try out all of them. Just to make sure we incorporate all of the senses, I’m sure the evening would smell nice too.
