TUESDAY, January 17th

Jose Gobbo & Goio Lima

Rose Bowl Tavern // free // 5 p.m.

Jazz musician Jose Gobbo and Goio Lima present Brazilian night for this Tuesday happy hour performance. Influential Brazilian musician Toninho Horta calls Gobbo “one of the great innovators in​ modern jazz today.”

Silverweed

Rose Bowl Tavern // free // 7:30 p.m.

Silverweed’s “cowboy hippie vibe” will deliver some psych tunes in the realm of The Dead and Neil Young.

WEDNESDAY, January 18th

Andrew Binder Trio

Rose Bowl Tavern // free // 5 p.m.

This outfit appears to be more like a quartet than a trio, which includes Binder on upright bass, Brian Stark on sax, Kurt Reeder on keys, and Jamie Mauck on drums. All of these musicians play in a variety of groups in town and are sure to impress.

THURSDAY, January 19th

Big Daddy Pride & Friends

Rose Bowl Tavern // free // 5 p.m.

Dave Pride is a familiar face, the head of Big Daddy Pride and the East Side 5, and he’ll be joined by some friends playing tunes on Thursday early evening.

Gloria Roubal

Rose Bowl Tavern // free // 7:30 p.m.

Roubal has been a mainstay of the C-U scene for quite some time now, playing pop/rock tunes in many forms, a solo outfit, groups, duos, and more. She’ll be a solo act later this week.

DJ Zay

The Canopy Club // $5-$15 advance / $20 day of show // 10 p.m.

Latin Night has become quite the thing at Canopy Club, morphing and producing shows several times a semester these days. DJ Zay packs the house each time around, so if you’re looking to vibe here’s your shot.

FRIDAY, January 20th

Jeff Helgesen Quintet

Rose Bowl Tavern // free // 5 p.m.

Exactly as it sounds, jazz musician Jeff Helgesen’s quintet holds down the Friday happy hour slot at Rose Bowl.

Josh Spinner and the Belz, Emily How

► The Canopy Club // $10 advance / $12 day of show // 7 p.m.

Indie outfit Josh Spinner and the Belz have a five piece band delivering their tunes at Canopy again following their previous show at the end of last semester in the same room. Check out this early show in the Red Room on Friday night.

Old Dominion, Frank Ray, Kassi Ashton, Greylan James

► State Farm Center // $29 – $69 // 7:30 p.m.

Nashville’s huge country act Old Dominion headlines this local arena show on Friday night. Their “No Bad Vibes” tour hits Champaign alongside Moline and Rockford on this run if you want to see them and can’t hit this one here.

SATURDAY, January 21st

Jive Bag

Rose Bowl Tavern // free // 3 p.m.

Jive Bag is a five-piece band that plays New Orleans-influenced funk and contemporary jazz.

Cypher Saturdays

► The Canopy Club // $10 // 9 p.m.

An even that previously took place at NOLA’s Rock Bar, featuring a variety of local rappers and emcees, has moved to Canopy Club.

SUNDAY, January 22nd

Afro D & Global Soundwaves

Rose Bowl Tavern // free // 4 p.m.

It is band leader Pete Shungu’s birthday show, so check out this six piece hip hop/jazz/funk/soul band for a nice, upbeat show for a Sunday afternoon.

Meadowhawk

Rose Bowl Tavern // free // 7 p.m.

This trio is comprised of Claire Johnson on violin, Amanda Ramey on violin, and Matt Turino on guitar and violin, making for a pretty fun show from this folk outfit.
