Full band appearance from An Evening With Your Mother this time around for the C-U Singer Songwriter series at The Clark Bar. WHAT: Broken Fences, The Curses

WHERE: The Iron Post ($5)

WHEN: Wednesday, August 15th at 8 p.m.

Pittsburg’s Broken Fences pay a visit to The Iron Post for a mid-week show with an always good local act: The Curses. They have routed a tour through the Midwest and bring their new debut self-titled record to share with us, which dropped back in June. You can stream the whole thing below from their Bandcamp page.

EDITOR’S PICK: PSYCHIC TWIN, THE DIRTY FEATHERS, DEATHTRAM
Cowboy Monkey ($5) —Thursday, August 16th at 10 p.m.

It’s only a matter of time before we get a full length album from Erin Fein and Brett Sanderson with Psychic Twin, but for now these singles have been more than satisfying while we wait. They have a bunch of dates lined up in support of this 7” release of “Gonna Get Her,” which is being released on Lefse Records as a part of their ongoing series. You can check out the track below, or preorder your own copy over at Lefse’s website

Joining PT are The Dirty Feathers — who just released another pretty cool video last week for the title track off of Midnight Snakes — and growl rockers Deathtram. Both bands have a bunch of dates lined up on their respective tours in the next few months.

WHAT: Chance the Rapper, G-Scott, The Pro Letarians

WHERE: Canopy Club ($7 advance/$10 door)

WHEN: Thursday, August 16th at 9:30 p.m.

Chicago up-and-coming rapper, appropriately named Chance the Rapper (to eliminate any confusion you might have had). He just dropped his 10 Day Mixtape a short while back, which you can download for free right now. I think he also supports the Chief, but in a different kind of way.

WHAT: Matt Poss & The Rolling Thunder

WHERE: The Highdive ($5)

WHEN: Friday, August 17th at 8 p.m.

Matt Poss & The Rolling Thunder roll through C-U into The Highdive this week. His mix of southern style rock and Americana would make for a good outdoor show, but this one is indoors, and hopefully they will heat up the place.

WHAT: Lydia Loveless

WHERE: Rose Bowl Tavern ($10 advance/$12 door)

WHEN: Friday, August 17th at 8 p.m.

This 21-year-old country singer and Ohio native brings some honky tonk over to Urbana Friday evening. Loveless has recieved some pretty good accolades over the past year, including being ranked among the best country albums of last year by SPIN magazine.

Annie will have a more in-depth look at their new record later in the week, and you can also get a sneak preview below with one of their new tracks posted to their Bandcamp page. They’ll be playing the whole record, start to finish, on Friday, so if you like what you hear at the show, you can pick up your own copy.

Head over to Luna to catch some good vibes in this awesome weather we have had recently in central Illinois.

Country & blues singer and guitarist Donna Herula brings some soul to The Iron Post on Saturday evening with local Gloria Roubal. Another solid show lined up by the C-U Folk and Roots Festival crew with the help of Prairie Crossroads Blues Society.

Nobody Knows You When You’re Down & Out Donna Herula: “Nobody Knows When You’re Down & Out”

WHAT: That’s No Moon, DJ Belly vs. Ricky Wells, Swords & Tone, I2K, Pauly Walnuts, Kirkwood West, Reed Richards

WHERE: The Highdive ($5)

WHEN: Saturday, August 18th at 10 p.m.

Another mix-up featuring some indie, DJs, and hip-hop this weekend at The Highdive. Harshpro will be hosting this one as well, which is headlined by That’s No Moon. We’ll have a closer look at what these mix-ups have offered later in the week leading up to this stacked bill on Saturday. Paint your face like David Bowie for the hell of it if you want to match the showbill and freak some people out.
