Come out for a really interesting night of Indian classical music and dance at Smith Memorial Hall on campus. Pradhanica is an Indian classical music group based out of New York City, from the Facebook page: “Rhythm defines them – there is rhythm in peace, rhythm in anger, rhythm in movement”. This will be a great opportunity to expand your musical horizons and it’s also free to attend.

When: Wednesday, February 3rd at 8 p.m.

Should be a great night of rock music featuring local bands Take Care and Resinater. Lume, a Chicago area group, will also be taking the stage as they kick off their winter tour.

What: Thomas Jack

Where: The Canopy Club ($20)

When: Wednesday, February 3rd at 9 p.m.

The subgenre of “tropical house” has blown up over the past year with DJs like Kygo and Klingande, as well as Thomas Jack, an Australian DJ and producer who has come to the forefront after hit tracks like “Rivers”. Take a break from winter and come out to The Canopy Club on Wednesday for some summery, laid-back dance music.

What: Withershins, Looming and Euriah

When: Thursday, February 4th at 8 p.m.

Springfield rockers Looming are coming to The Canopy Club on Thursday and they are sure to put on a good show – check out some tracks from their album Nailbiter. They will be joined by locals Withershins, who just put out this awesome cover of Nick Drake’s “Place to Be”, and Euriah, whose debut EP made our top 10 list of 2015.

What: Cullen Omori with Tara Terra and Tigerbeat

Since Smith Westers officially disbanded back in December of 2014, Cullen Omori has signed with Sub Pop Records and his debut solo album is due out on March 18th. Check out the new single “Cinnamon” from his upcoming album. He will be joined by Tara Terra, who just “killed” it this past Thursday at The Great Cover Up, and Tigerbeat, a local indie folk band.

What: Bones Jugs with Old Salt Union, and Hot Hand Luke & the Sound

Bones Jugs are fresh off the recording of their new album which is set to release later this spring. They will bring their eclectic mix of percussive americana music to The Canopy Club with Old Salt Union, a bluegrass group from the St. Louis area, and local rockers Hot Hand Luke & The Sound.

Another big-name country music artists hits The City Center on Friday night. James Otto rose to prominence with his hit song “Just Got Started Lovin’ You”, which was ranked number one on Billboard’s year-end Hot Country Songs chart back in 2008.

Come out to Tolono for a night full of acapella featuring groups like No Comment, Xtension Chords, and Rip Chords from the U of I, as well as Surreal Sound from Unity High School. All proceeds will be going toward enhancing music in Unit 7 schools.

Chicago-based funk/hip-hop artist Bardo will make his Champaign debut on Saturday night. He will be joined by local synthpop duo Boycut and local singer-songwriter Fiona Kimble.

What: Japan Twang! Sato Michiyoshi

Where: The Japan House (free)

When: Sunday, February 7th at 1:30 p.m.

Cap off your week full of music with another really interesting and unique performance featuring Japanese shamisen virtuoso Sato Michiyoshi for free at the Japan House just south of campus. A shamisen is a three-stringed banjo type of intstrument. Should be a really educational and fun event.
