The Overture: February 21 – 27

WHAT: Evil Tents, Take Care, BlueprintsFFT, Kirkwood West, Cal Emmerich

WHERE: Mike ‘N Molly’s ($5)

WHEN: Thursday, February 23rd at 10 p.m.

This bill is pretty great by itself — add a special visual effects presentation and you have yourself a most excellent bill. Matt Harsh, or HarshPro, will be delivering live visuals throughout the night for these groups, and I can’t think of many things better than a night of Evil Tents’ skying acoustics and Take Care’s booming post-rockness accompanied by an insane visual show.

WHAT: Bobby V.

WHERE: Canopy Club ($30 advance/$40 door)

WHEN: Thursday, February 23rd at 10 p.m.

In a bit of a change up this week, Bobby Valentino or “Bobby V.” pays a visit to Canopy. Bringing some R&B to the area is a pleasant surprise. This Alabama by way of Mississippi performer is coming off of his 2011 album Fly on the Wall, and a new record is anticipated for sometime this year.

Listen: Bobby V: “Slow Down”

WHAT: Sun Stereo, Exception to the Rule

WHERE: Cowboy Monkey ($5)

WHEN: Friday, February 24th at 10 p.m.

Pretty quick turnaround for Sun Stereo, as they are less than two weeks removed from their last show in C-U at Canopy Club. This time they are headlining across town at Cowboy with Georgia’s funk infused jazz quartet Exception to the Rule. We’re hoping there’s a Star Wars theme like the poster, too.

WHAT: La Armada, The Disappeared, Dino Bravo, Laughboy

WHERE: Mike ‘N Molly’s ($5)

WHEN: Friday, February 24th at 10 p.m.

I feel like the “Latino Hardcore Fury” label pretty much sums up what this show will be like. Headliners La Armada reign from the Windy City and are joined by a couple of punk outfits from the area.

WHAT: Dreamers of the Ghetto, Shy Guy Says, Finer Feelings

WHERE: Mike ‘N Molly’s ($5)

WHEN: Saturday, February 25th at 10 p.m.

Dreamers of the Ghetto hail from Bloomington, Indiana and are signed to a pretty solid label in Temporary Residence Limited (The Books, Explosions in the Sky, Maserati). They just dropped their debut Enemy/Lover and want to share it with C-U. Joining them are a pair of C-U indie bands to fill out the bill.

Listen: Dreamers of the Ghetto: “Connection”

WHAT: Rusko

WHERE: Canopy Club ($30 advance)

WHEN: Sunday, February 26th at 9 p.m.

In what is becoming more and more of a force in the C-U music scene, the world-renowned Britdub-step extraordinaire Rusko brings the beats stateside. He’s got a new record simply titled Songs out later next month and is nearly done with this stretch of college tour stops.

Listen: Rusko: “Woo Boost”
