Another Summer Show Series show is ready to go this week featuring the incredible Marissa Nadler on Thursday night. Do yourself a favor and check out some of her material, including this year’s easily-overlooked July, released back in February on Sacred Bones Records (Fresh & Onlys, Woods, Zola Jesus, The Men… need I continue?). They’re joined by Chicago’s Mutts, which have been down to C-U a few times in recent memory.

Krannert Center’s OUTSIDE at the Research Park concert series will continue this week with Grammy-winner Terrance Simient and the Zydeco Experience. This show follows up the first installment of the summer series that happened back in June featuring Davina & The Vagabonds.

One hell of a show lined up at Mike ‘N Molly’s to round out the week, featuring two local staples and two visitors. Elsinore has played here and there in town since the release of last year’s PUSH/PULLand Withershins are gearing up for the release of their third record (and Silver Cities follow up) Mt. Fuji In Blue. Without a doubt, that one is a highly anticipated local release. Broken Light and Earthgrazer hail from Lafayette, Indiana.

“Endless Summer Abyss Part I: The blackest show of the summer. Brace your face.” That’s a good way to figure out what type of music is billed here, featuring black metal outfits galore. Scandinavian outfit Dodsmarsch headlines with a handful of local crews to round it out on Friday night.

The ever-popular local blues outfit Kilborn Alley will take the stage at the Iron Post on Friday night. We’re not entirely sure what the cover will be, but rest assured there will be one. The Iron Post is a solid place to see a show, let alone this one.

WHAT: abnormous, Duke of Uke and His Novelty Orchestra

Local funk rock outfit abnormous will be releasing their new record abnormous nights on Saturday night. They’re joined by another local outfit Duke of Uke and His Novelty Orchestra. Check back later as we’ll be talking with the band later this week about the release.

Sure, there are plenty of things you could be doing on a Saturday afternoon and evening in C-U, but this is one that creates a great result with the ingredients. Really good bands performing: Bones Jugs N Harmony, Granddkids, Sunshine Daydream The Fights, Bailalai, and Ricky Wells. Mike ‘N Molly’s beergarden on a summer afternoon. There will be booze. There will be food. All good things you should be involved with. Don’t blow it, people. Grab your tickets in advance via the Facebook event linked above.
