With work, family, and food that needs eating, who has the time to find out about the best shows happening in Champaign-Urbana? No need to fear, because the editors here at Smile Politely have taken care of it. Here are the must-see shows of the week:

When: Wednesday, March 4
What: The Adam Larson Project
Where: The Iron Post, 5:30 p.m., cost tba

Adam Larson, jazz saxophonist extraordinaire and Normal, Ill. native, comes to town with his quintet to play some acclaimed music that has prompted one Chicago critic to call Larson “a player for whom the word ‘prodigious’ was coined.”

 

When: Thursday, March 5
What: Cameron McGill and What Army, Eric Wilson and the Empty Hearts, Ryan Groff, Brooks Ritter
Where: Cowboy Monkey, 9:30 p.m., $7

Cameron McGill comes back to C-U with a backing band and a brand new record, Warm Songs for Cold Shoulders.

When: Saturday, March 7
What: Murder by Death, Fake Problems, Sam Lowry
Where: Canopy Club, 6:30 p.m., $10

Murder by Death will be performing the complete two albums in their Desert Series, 2008’s Red of Tooth and Claw and 2003’s Who Will Survive and What Will Be Left of Them?, in order. Accompanying the show will be a program of the evening’s set, as well as a large video projection. In other words, don’t shout out any requests.
