The annual Roots Walk is one of the best off-season events produced by the C-U Folk and Roots Festival Collective, and this year, it’ll be held at the lovely Crystal Lake Park. Art Remastered will be local musicians responding to artwork on display at Krannert. Each musician has picked a piece to perform about, and on Friday, each one will play in front of the artwork that they have chosen. WHAT: Gonna Turnip the Beets: Food Not Bombs Fundraising Show

Food Not Bombs CU is a new organization that aims to provide free healthful meals to those in need in the community. For this inaugural dinner and show, attendees are asked to bring cups, plates, and cutlery to eat with and then donate, and additional donations are encouraged and appreciated. Local acts Holly Monet and harryoftheEarth will provide music for the event.

The Sounds at Sunset Concert Series continues to bring you rotating local bands at rotating local parks. This year’s series is just getting warmed up, and they’ve got New Souls for Sunday’s episode. It’s difficult to say no to any show in a park, let alone a free, family-friendly one.

WHERE: Faith United Methodist Church (1719 S Prospect Ave in Champaign) ($15 for adults / $10 for seniors [65 and older] and children [12 and under])
WHEN: Sunday, May 21 at 5 p.m.
Local performers will sing classic Broadway tunes for this charity event, which will also feature a silent auction. All proceeds will be donated to the Children’s Hemiplegia and Stroke Association (CHASA) to increase awareness for pediatric stroke.
