Smile Politely

The Overture: May 19-25

WHAT: Chain’s Gang, Soap Scum, Gnargoyle

WHERE: Dingbat Dungeon ($5)

WHEN: Wednesday, May 21st at 7 p.m.

Last show in C-U for Chain’s Gang, should be a good one for your midweek mosh fix.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

WHAT: Terminus Victor, Last Remaining Pinnacle, Woodie

WHERE: Mike ‘N Mollys ($7)

WHEN: Thursday, May 22nd at 8 p.m.

This is gonna be a loud one, with locals Terminus Victor leading the way in the face-melting. The early forecast for Thursday looks good, so seeing this in the beer garden seems like an awfully damn good option for the evening.
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

WHAT: m.p.h.

WHERE: Cowboy Monkey ($5)

WHEN: Friday, May 23rd at 9:30 pm

This local blues rock trio claim to play rock the way it was meant to be played. Not a bad price if you want to check it out for yourself.
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

WHAT: Fauve, Wild Jesus & The Devil’s Lettuce Family Party Band

WHERE: Mike n Mollys ($7)

WHEN: Friday, May 23rd at 8 p.m.

Church Booty brings the funk, Wild Jesus et al. add some psychedlia, but the most exciting part of this show is how Fauve recreate their lush soundscapes live. This one’s the best bet for a fun Friday night.
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

WHAT: Red Cent, Jack Torrance, Tried & True, Lost Years, Year of the Bobcat

WHERE: Error Records ($5)

WHEN: Saturday, May 24th at 7:30 p.m.

Among the touring bands, Red Cent has some Santah-ish folky vibes, Jack Torrance have a Walkmen-inspired groove to their sound, and Lost Years play their own take on pop-punk. Along with locals Tried and True and Year of the Bobcat there’s a very solid bill going on at Error.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

WHAT: The Chemicals, The Conformist, Dr. Responsible

WHERE: Mike ‘N Mollys ($7)

WHEN: Saturday, May 24th at 8 p.m.

There’s not a lot on the internet about The Chemicals, but the one song on their Bandcamp page is pretty good. Along with The Conformist and Dr. Responsible, this is another good one on Saturday night.
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

EDITOR’S PICK: MUSCLE WORSHIP, VICTOR VILLARREAL, CRTVTR, HANK., SLAM DINNER
Error Records ($8) — Sunday, May 25th at 7:30 p.m.

There’s no school and no work for most people on Memorial Day, and Error is taking full advantage of that. This bill is stacked with talent, including Victor Villarreal (Owls, Cap’n Jazz, Joan of Arc) and Muscle Worship. Of course, locals Hank. can always be counted on for a great show, too.
