Harlem 100 – Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Harlem Renaissance

KCPA has paired with the Nation Jazz Museum in Harlem to help pay tribute to the African American cultural boom that was the Harlem Renaissance. Mwenso and the Shakes, along with Brianna Thomas, Michela Marino Lerman, and Vuyo Sotashe, will create a multi-media experience to transport the listener back in time.

DJ Hivemind and Strick Lee (Bat Factory—November)

► 25 O’Clock Brewing Co. // Free // 8 p.m.

Bat Factory is a monthly celebration of all things creepy in music and fashion. 25 O’Clock Brewing Company hosts DJ Hivemind and DJ Strick Lee for a night of dancing, Industrial, Noise, and other, darker alternative music, and local brews. Show is open to adults 18+.

This will be a great show to start off your weekend. Local acts Motes and Nectar are joined by Jupiter Styles (a project of Sean Neumann, a familiar face in the Champaign scene), and Palm Ghosts (Philadelphia, PA). The cover is on a sliding scale from $7-10, so be prepared for anything.

The City Center is hosting Elsinore’s release show from their new album, A Life in the 21st Century. The show will feature a range of other local acts before Elsinore takes the stage around 10:30. This is a great show to fill up your Saturday night if you’re not one to run around town.

The SLO, under the baton of Stéphane Denève, is marking 140 years of music making this season. Sunday’s concert at KCPA will feature “Venit Illuminatio” by Aaron Jay Kernis, Bartók’s Violin Concerto No. 2 (Gil Shaham Violin), and Barhms’ Symphony No. 4 in E Minor, Op. 98.
