A new mural by Kinsey Fitzgerald is in the works on Rose Bowl Tavern

There’s more public artwork going up in C-U. We posted about this one on Green Street in Campustown, this one by Lisa Kesler in Downtown Champaign, and yesterday, I caught wind of this mural being worked on in Urbana. The photo above is progress as of yesterday afternoon.

With the help of a private sponsorship by the City of Urbana, visual artist Kinsey Fitzgerald is hard at work on a new mural on the exterior of Rose Bowl Tavern in Downtown Urbana. Fitzgerald will be working on it throughout the morning hours (you know, because it is pretty damn hot outside right now!) and when it is finished, there will be a ribbon cutting event at one of Rose Bowl’s After Market events on a Saturday in the future.

Fitzgerald mentioned that she was focused on creating native prairie roses, which makes a lot of sense on the exterior of Rose Bowl. Keep your eyes peeled for the progress of this mural in the coming days and weeks, and read our recent editorial about their parking lot patio and Alyssa’s five things from May.

UPDATE, 7:37 p.m.: Since posting this earlier today, some information has been passed to me from Rachel Storm of the City of Urbana. The mural is called Native Prairie Roses. It is being funded with support from Urbana Arts and Culture Program and a private donation from former Urbana Arts and Culture Comission Chair, Pat Sammann.
