(Urbana) On Saturday, September 30, Alderman Aaron Ammons will moderate the community event “Court Fines and Fees: Stop Penalizing the Poor.” The sponsors of the event are First Followers, a community-based peer mentoring program for people who are returning to the community after a felony conviction or incarceration. The program will include testimony from community members who faced loss of licenses or have been blocked from accessing housing and employment because of court debts. There will also be a spoken word performance by Aaron Aplus Wilson and light refreshments. The event will take place at the Champaign Public Library on Saturday, September 30 from 4–5:30 p.m.
