Remember way back when in March 2019 when it was announced there’d be a new hotel going into Downtown Champaign, right across the street from the Orpheum and just south of Sticky Rice and Bentley’s? Welp, that got put on hold because of the pesky pandemic that happened, but now it seems to be back on track.
Per this report in the News-Gazette, they’re gonna start building it in September, with a goal to open by Christmas 2022. The Aloft Hotel, a Marriott brand, will have roughly 130 rooms and a bar on the main floor.
