If you are a soccer fan, you likely know that the FIFA Women’s World Cup™ begins this week. The US team has the opportunity to claim a third consecutive title, something no men’s or women’s US team has accomplished. It will also be the final World Cup for Megan Rapinoe, who announced her impending retirement just recently.
The Illini Union will once again be showing the games in the Courtyard Cafe, something that they’ve done for the past several World Cup soccer tournaments. The games draw a crowd, and it’s a really fun environment to watch the games.
The downside of this year’s event, is that the games are taking place in Australia and New Zealand. That means that game times will be sort of all over the place here. The Union will only be able to show four games:
- July 20th, 9:30 p.m. Nigeria vs Canada
- July 21st, 8 p.m. USA vs Vietnam
- July 26th, 7 a.m. Canada vs Ireland
- July 27th, 7 p.m. Argentina vs South Africa
They’ll be going all out for the USA-Vietnam game, with free food, trivia, and prizes. The party will begin at 6 p.m.
