The History, Philosophy, and Newspaper Library at U of I is hosting a series of events at the beginning of March that, according to the press release, “highlights the research, creativity, and brilliance of Black professors on the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus.”

Here’s the event line up for Blaxtravaganza. All events are free and open to all.

March 2nd
David Wright Faladé, Professor of English, will read from his latest novel Black Cloud Rising, 4 p.m. in Room 220 of Main Library
March 3rd
Alexandra Barbier, Post-Doctoral Research Associate in the Department of Dance, will present Stations of Black Loss – Work(s) in Progress, 4 p.m. in Room 220 of Main Library
March 4th
Courtney Becks, African American and Jewish Studies Librarian, will share a table reading of a
work in progress, her play The Socialization of Love, 4 p.m. in Room 422 of the Levis Center
March 6th
Reiko Huffman, Assistant Professor of Scenic Design in the Department of Theatre, presents
Scenic Design and the Process, 4 p.m. in Room 220 of Main Library
March 7th
Nekita Thomas, Assistant Professor of Graphic Design in the School of Art + Design, will hold
the interactive Design and the Black Spatial Imaginary Workshop: Creating Black-Affirming
Public Spaces, 4 p.m. in Room 220 of Main Library
March 8th
La Fête: DJs N the Library
A closing celebration with food, (non-alcoholic) drink, and music by bla(CK)mau — the DJ collective made up of Stacey Robinson, Chris Kinson, and Kamau Grantham, 7 p.m. in the Music and Performing Arts Library
